As previously reported, Neary School will host an October 30th forum for parents to ask questions or voice concerns about the proposed 4th grade iPad Pilot. In preparation, Principal Linda Murdock wants to provide parents with the information they have been asking for.
On October 22nd at 7:00 pm, Trottier Middle School* will host an expert in the field of technology integration, Tom Daccord, co-director of EdTechTeacher, Inc.. Daccord has
extensive experience in the field of technology integration, particularly working with schools and districts implementing 1:1 technology programs.
According to Murdock, Daccord will present “the ways in which using technology in this manner can transform teaching and learning.”
Murdock clarified for me that Daccord will not answer questions specific to the way technology will be used in the proposed Neary Pilot. The purpose for the session is to respond to questions about the experiences of other schools, the research around 1:1, and how it works in practice.
Daccord will answer questions on the topic and give his insights based on his experience in working with other schools.
In addition to the presentation, 4th graders’ parents will soon be receiving more materials on the proposed pilot. By October 25th, Murdock intends to send packets home to parents with more information on the pilot and a more extensive FAQ.
Murdock’s hope is that by October 30th most questions will be answered and any earlier miscommunication cleared up. That way when parents come to the forum on October 30th, the forum will be more productive.
Two specific miscommunication she wanted to clear up:
- There is no current plan to extend the pilot to lower grades.
- Despite the phrasing of the attached letter, the October 30th forum is for all parents (not just 4th grade parents)
