Alvan R. Jones, 87, of Southborough died at his home on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, after a period of declining health.
He was the husband of Ingamay (Magnuson) Grimm Jones.
Mr. Jones was a US Marine veteran serving in WW II, and earned his bachelor degree at Northeastern University in Boston. For many years Al worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Department of Correction, his rank was Captain, but he was the acting Deputy Superintendent when he retired.
He was an active member of the Southborough Senior Center, and Greater Grace Christian Fellowship of Marlborough. Al was an avid singer and enjoyed music and playing cribbage. His laughter and jolly personality will be missed by all that knew him.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his stepchildren, Bradford Surner of Swampscott; Benjamin Surner of Holyoke; Penny Healy of Boylston; Harry Grimm of Naples, FL; Robert Grimm of Shrewsbury; John Grimm and Helen Leger both of Southborough; Richard Grimm of W. Barnstable; 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a wife, Barbara Jones, a son David Jones and a stepson, Peter Surner.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10:30 to 12:30 PM at the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Southborough.
A graveside funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM at the Southborough Rural Cemetery, 11 Cordaville Rd, Rte 85.
