Here are highlights of what’s happening around town this week. Some events this week are a last hurrah for the summer. But one event celebrates the start of school for kids with a big first day coming up.

Wednesday, August 20, 2014:
- Senior Picnic with Rep. Dykema (12:00 – 2:00 pm) @ Hopkinton Laborers Training Center: Annual Senior Picnic with State Representative Carolyn Dykema. RSVP through the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
- Free Senior Matinee (12:00 – 1:40 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: The Grand Budapest Hotel – Drama/comedy (1 hour 40 minutes) Directed by Wes Anderson (Moonrise KIngdom and The Royal Tenenbaums. Room will be open at 11:30 for anyone who wants to bring their lunch
- Welcome to Kindergarten Party! (2:30 pm) @ Southborough Libary: A special party for children entering Kindergarten in September. They will hear fun stories, make a craft, and have a treat. Space is limited…so registration is required. Please call the Library at 508-485-5031 for more information or stop by the Children’s Room.
Thursday, August 21, 2014:
- Southborough Summer Concert Series (6:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Neary School grounds: Blackstone Valley Bluegrass will play the final free concert of the season. See dedicated post for details.
Friday, August 22, 2014:
- The Candy House (1:00 – ) @ 117 East Main St, Westborough: A free play performed by kids with SkyRise Children’s Theater. A Musical Parody of Hansel and Gretel.
- I love you, you’re perfect, now change (8:00 pm) @ The Willows in Westborough: Westborough Player’s Club
Saturday, August 23, 2014:
- Southborough Summer Nights (5:00 – 9:00 pm) @ Neary and Trottier Fields: The town’s biggest annual event – ending with fireworks at dusk. See dedicated post for details.
