Events this week (9/8-9/14/14): Open Houses, season kickoffs, and info nights (Updated again)

Here are highlights of what’s happening around town this week.

A lot of these events are focused community organizations or schools kickstarting their new season. (And if your increasingly busy fall schedule is making you tense, there’s a free yoga class on offer.)

Monday, September 08, 2014:

  • Preschool Storytime (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library: The new season begins. For children age 2-5 years and their parents or caregivers. Each week will feature several stories and a craft based on a theme.
  • Assabet Valley Mastersingers’ Open Rehearsal (7:30 pm) @ Church of the Nativity, 45 Howard St., Northborough: Final open rehearsal of fall season for potential new members. For details, see dedicated post.

Tuesday, September 09, 2014:

  • Tour of The Willows at Westborough (10:00 am – 1:20 pm) @ Pickup and drop off at Southborough Senior Center: Learn about living options and specifics of the retirement community. Pckup by coach at 10:00 am; noon lunch; 1:00 pm coach departs for return trip. Space is limited, so pre-register by calling 508-229-4453.
  • Preschool Storytime (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library: The new season begins. For children age 2-5 years and their parents or caregivers. Each week will feature several stories and a craft based on a theme.
  • Trottier and Neary Schools Early Release
  • Trottier Curriculum Night (6:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Trottier Middle School Library, 49 Parkerville Road: Open House for students’ parents and guardians 
  • Senior Songsters (11:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: 1st rehearsal of season The Senior Songsters put on 2-3 shows each year at the Senior Center and also perform at nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the area. Performances feature the full chorus as well as solos, duets and small group numbers. There are no auditions to join the chorus and the only requisites are to be over 60 and enjoy singing. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Girl Scout information night (7:00 – 8:30 pm) @ Finn School: All girls/adults interested in becoming Girl Scouts are invited to come to the Southborough Girl Scout registration night. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Northborough Area Community Chorus (7:30 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School’s choral room: 1st rehearsal of the new season. For details, see dedicated post.

Wednesday, September 10, 2014:

  • Preschool Storytime (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library: The new season begins. For children age 2-5 years and their parents or caregivers. Each week will feature several stories and a craft based on a theme.
  • Senior Book Group (11:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: Monthly book group led by the Southborough Library’s Pat Ellis. This month the group will discuss The Orphan Train by Christine Baker Kline.

Thursday, September 11, 2014:

  • Baby and Toddler Storytime (10:30 – 11:15 am) @ Southborough Library: The new season begins. This story time is for children age 0-2 years and their parents or caregivers. Each session will include puppets, stories, and music.
  • Free Yoga Class (5:30 – 6:30 pm) @ 9 Cordaville Road: Malu Doherty yoga is offering a class for all adults. (It is being held at the Southborough Senior Center, but isn’t a “senior class”.)
  • Neary Curriculum Night (6:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Neary School: Open House for students’ parents and guardians
  • Teen Advisory Group (6:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library’s Teen Space: This group helps brainstorm future teen events and suggest new materials for the library’s YA collection.  All middle school and high school students are welcome to join.
  • ARHS Senior Parent College Night (7:00 – 7:15 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School Auditorium
  • Southborough Kindergroup Kickoff (8:00 pm) @ The Community House, 28 Main Street: An info and welcome back night for the new season of the co-operative playgroup. New and potential members can meet returning members while learning more. For details, see dedicated post.

Updated (9/8/14 1:10 pm): A reader’s comment made me realize I had the wrong date for Trottier Open House and the Trottier/Neary Early release.

I think Neary has early release on Tuesday, 11/9.
