I’ve been asked to share the obituary of a woman who grew up here in town and died much too young:
Darby E. Stott, 43, of Boston, passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 after a heroic battle with cancer.
Darby was the beloved daughter of Patricia and Jonathan Stott of Osterville; she leaves her loving brother, Jed Stott of Holliston; her adored niece and nephew, Libby and Charlie; she also leaves her wonderful team of special friends, Annemarie and Karen Fogerty, Miranda Hooker, Dawn Pischetola, Marcia Lee Taylor and Donna Stearns and her loyal companion Lola, her diva dog.
Darby was a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and Boston College’s Carroll School of Management.
Darby had a wonderful career in varied places: in Washington, DC Darby was a Legal Assistant at Dewey Ballantine and then worked in the White House Press Office during the Clinton administration, which was highlighted by trips on Air Force One. She then returned home to Boston to work at State Street Bank and subsequently earned her MBA. Her career ended at Fidelity Investments.
At every stage Darby met exceptional people and loyal and devoted friends. Her life was lived with faith and tenacity.
As usual, Darby was thinking of those that will follow her, and accordingly became a strong supporter of cancer research and worked tirelessly to promote and support the cause. Her passion for cancer research was spurred by her love for Dr. Eric Winer, her wonderful Oncologist. Dr. Winer gave her unending joy on her final walk.
Many remember Darby’s touching and spirited speeches. One of her most pointed efforts was the formation of TEAM DARBY for the Jimmy Fund Walk to directly channel monies to needed research for breast cancer. Darby’s family is so appreciative of all that has been given in her name, and request continued support in lieu of flowers.

I remember Darby fondly from our days of walking to Woodward Middle School together. I was very sorry to hear of her passing.
