Are there Bears in them there woods?

Above: Was this bird feeder brought down to the ground by a bear (photo contributed)

A reader alerted me to the possibility of a bear lurking about Southborough. It wouldn’t be the first time we had a bear roam through.

The message explained:

A neighbor saw the bear about a month ago on our street, and it just so happened that the next day, my bird feeder was bent and my feeder on the ground.

I waited about two weeks, put it back together, started to feed the birds again without incident..until this morning…[see photo above]

As I have posted in the past, outdoor food sources can attract bears to your yard. So you may want to reconsider the bird feeders.

Have you sighted a bear in town or seen signs of one in your yard? Post a comment below.

Feeling nostalgic? Here are some posts on past bear sightings in Southborough from 2011:

Don’t Bears hibernate this time of year?

Only when their food source becomes limited and it gets cold. It has been so warm this fall and early winter, it may have waited…

We also had a visitor Tuesday night some time between 8:30 and 9:30 PM and our bird feeder looks worse than that. We are on Main Street, not too far from Granuaile Road. It could be the same bear, however we did not actually see him.
