Thanks to sponsors, donors and attendees, Southborough Education Foundation raised over $19,000 through this year’s Spelling Bee. The money will be used to fund innovative grants for Southborough’s elementary schools and Algonquin Regional.

Organizers are eager to share news and thank supporters. First, here’s a recap of the February fundraiser:

As you know, since you were there, the evening was a lot of fun from start to finish and the new, shorter format allowed those who attended to be heading home shortly after 8:30. The energy from the audience and contestants was high the entire night and Jamie Clark, this year’s new MC, kept the mood festive and upbeat while doing a great job entertaining the crowd.

This year’s overall Spelling Champions were “It’s a Spellebration” with team members Amy Benford, Mary Ellen Duggan, and Allison Garand. They prevailed over the competition in the final round by correctly spelling “calumny” which is a noun meaning “the making of false or defamatory statements in order to damage someone’s reputation; slander”.

SEF is also excited to share the non-profit’s new website. The revamped site should make it easier for:

community members to see what SEF has done for our schools in terms of grants funded and also to find out what events are coming up and how they can contact us or get involved!

They also want to thank the team sponsors, raffle donors and the many, many people who helped make the Bee such a success. Click here to open that flyer.

Finally, here are some great pics from the night:
