New recreation at Woodward – Thanks to Eagle Scouts

Town Recreation was pleased to share two new offerings this fall. Thanks to two Eagle Scouts, the town now has an excercise obstacle course and a new “Wall Ball” wall.

Because they are located at Woodward School, the facilities can be made use of by 2nd-3rd graders school.  But they are also open to the public during non-school hours.

(In fact, I witnessed many older kids taking advantage of the obstacle course after soccer practice even before it was complete.)

Recreation Director Doreen Ferguson previewed the plans this summer:

Obstacle Course – Dan Greene has been working hard on designing and building an obstacle course on Choate Field (near the golf course entrance). This is a feature the Rec Dept has wanted to do for several years to be used by our camps and as well as the teachers and kids at Woodward School.

Wall Ball – CJ Bai has also been working hard on designing and building a wall ball for Woodward School. Teacher, Tiffany Goode, said the kids use the wall by the gym and the balls almost always end up on the roof. She asked if Rec could make some improvements. CJ came up with the location and design that will solve the problem.

These young men are very talented and I enjoyed working with them. I was extremely impressed with their drawings and how many different choices they offered. I’m looking forward to watching kids play with these new features that Dan and CJ have created.

Recently, the projects were completed and I was able to snap some pics. Click on thumbnails below to enlarge.
