Reminder: Submit questions on Open Meeting or Conflict laws and register for October 15 forum

Southborough is hosting a presentation by the AG’s office next Thursday, October 15. The purpose is to better inform Town employees and committee members of the ethics rules they need to follow.

The forum is also open to any member of the public who wants to better understand the transparency and conflict laws.

If you plan to attend, please pre-register with the state (617-963-2925 or OMLTraining@state.ma.us.) Registrants are asked to provide:

1) their first and last names; 2) town of residence; 3) the public body/organization they represent, if appropriate; 4) Email/phone number; and 5) the location of the educational forum they will attend.

Anyone who has questions they’d like answered at the forum is asked to provide those in advance by emailing townclerk@southboroughma.com.

Here is the full notice from the Town Clerk’s office:

The Southborough Town Clerk’s Office invites all to attend a presentation on the Open Meeting Law and Conflict of Interest Laws. The presentation by officials from the Attorney General’s Office and the State Ethics Commission will be held on Thursday October 15, 2015 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm at the Senior Center, 9 Cordaville Road in Southborough.

Because some have expressed concern about transparency in local government, violations of Open Meeting Law and potential issues of Conflicts of Interest, we decided to ask the experts from the Attorney General’s Office and the State Ethics Commission to come to town and explain these laws. The more we can help our volunteer and elected officials understand these laws, the better we will all comply with them.

All members of public bodies, municipal employees, and members of the general public are encouraged to attend. Individuals interested in attending an educational forum are asked to register in advance by calling 617-963-2925 or by emailing OMLTraining@state.ma.us, and providing: 1) their first and last names; 2) town of residence; 3) the public body/organization they represent, if appropriate; 4) Email/phone number; and 5) the location of the educational forum they will attend.

If anyone has any questions they would like to ask the presenters, please send an email to townclerk@southboroughma.com and I will send it to the presenters in advance of the meeting.

James F. Hegarty
Southborough Town Clerk
