Recycling, reuse and hazardous waste events this Saturday and next, plus ongoing resources

Two disposal/recycling events are coming up that are worth noting. While I’m at it, I might as well throw in reminders about other options.

This weekend, St. Anne’s Church is again hosting an Electronics & Bicycle recycling event. (The church doesn’t organize it but will receive a portion of proceeds.)

That event takes place from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm this Saturday, October 10. Click here for details and recycling fees.

Of course, the event isn’t the only place where bicycles are accepted. I believe that if in decent condition, bikes are popular swap shop items at the Transfer Station.

And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that according to commenters, Best Buy takes back most TVs for free. So you may want to check with the store before paying to recycle one.

If Best Buy won’t take your TVs and monitors, there is a second chance to recycle those through the Town the following weekend. But while the Town contractor’s computer monitor fee is the same ($10), its TV recycling fees are higher.

The Town event isn’t really about TVs and monitors though. It’s the annual Hazardous Household Waste Collection Day. It’s a chance to dispose of items like pesticides, solvents, and disposable batteries. (Not alkaline batteries, since they actually aren’t hazardous and can be deposited in the trash.)

The Collection Day takes place at the Public Work’s Garage (that’s in the parking lot to the right below the transfer station.) That event is on Saturday, October 17 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. There are specifics on what is and isn’t allowed, so click here for details.

Finally, a reminder about the SOS Recycling/Reuse bins at Southborough Schools (plus an APTO one at Algonquin). The collection of clothing, accessories and more raises funds for the school/parent organizations. Click here for details.
