[Editor’s Note: I just learned that the event is being postponed with date TBA.]
Have you been alarmed by all the reports on concussions in teen athletes? I have. So, I’m glad to hear there’s a community group in our district working to make a difference.
Algonquin Athletic Boosters are raising funds for a cause I can really get behind – ARHS Concussion Awareness Program. According to one member of the boosters, this is about more than just awareness.
The boosters are holding a fundraiser on Thursday October 29, at the Westborough Chick-fil-A from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. Funds raised will go to both Shrewsbury and ARHS athletics.
ARHS will be using their funds to help pay for baseline concussion testing for student athletes:
This testing will be done before the season starts so if an athlete receives a concussion during the season, the medical personnel can use this data to evaluate their condition and recovery progress.
You don’t need to participate to support the cause. Anyone can send a check payable to ARHS Athletics Boosters, PO Box 303 Northborough, MA 02532.
But as an incentive to attend the event, the evening is being billed as a Spirit Night with pep band, prizes and “cow appearances”.
