Open discussion thread: Ask questions, share opinions

It’s time for another open thread. What’s on your mind this week, Southborough?

For those of you new to the blog, the open discussion thread is your place to ask questions, sound off on town issues, or share information with other readers. Here are some suggestions to get you started:

  • Ask questions about programs in town or the town itself
  • Post a note about things that you’re selling or giving away, or things that you want
  • Share notices about upcoming events (Southborough or otherwise)
  • Register your thoughts on town issues or news stories
  • Point out interesting or helpful resources

You can add comments to the thread throughout the week. Check back often to see new comments. (If you read the blog via email or RSS, you might want to check the site from time to time for new comments.)

I know this has been asked and talked about a million times on the newsletter but I’ll ask again instead of trying to do a search.

When does the official work begin on Main Street? Is it next spring?

Does anyone know the current status/prospect of getting a grade level pedestrian crossing at the Southborough commuter rail station (connecting the north and south boarding platforms)?

Was it necessary to take down the row of mature, healthy evergreen trees along Lynbrook Road on 11/4 & 11/5? Who is the builder / developer?

I was poking around on the mass DOT site the other day and I believe it said the Main st project is still in the design stage and work is planed to start in 2017. That’s from memory so you may check it out yourself. There is a whole list of Southborough work on there. The rt 9 project is 60% complete it also stated. We sure could use some correct lines on that road, not sure where the lanes are. I keep getting passed by cars in the breakdown lane.

What is the deal with the brown shingled houses with green trim on Deerfoot Rd just next to the reservoir? They seem to be “mostly” finished and unoccupied and have been for what seems like a decade.

I’ve heard several different stories but I don’t know what the “real deal” is exactly.

If some of the Founders were alive today they would be able to tell us that the reason for our most pressing national problems were caused by the failure of our legislators to adhere to the oath of office which they thoughtfully included in the Constitution.

It is also the failure of the people to overcome their unawareness of the fundamentals in the realm of economics and politics and history and human nature.

As Thomas Jefferson said, “If a nation thinks it can remain ignorant and still free, it wants something that never was and never will be.”

Only certain powers were granted and listed in Article 1 Section 8 of the Constitution.

Only gold and silver coins containing specific amounts of those precious metals were to be the sound money of the nation. Gold and silver certificates made it clear that they were redeemable for the real money backing them on demand.

Read Timberlake’s Constitutional Money: A Review of Supreme Court Monetary Decisions if you dare to learn how the Supreme Court is responsible for the loss of purchasing power of our currency. Read Griffin’s The Creature From Jekyll Island to learn the history of central banking in our history and how a private banker invited a handful of his banker friends to a secret meeting in 1910 at which they wrote what became the Federal Reserve Act of 1913.

Support Students For Liberty and Young Americans For Liberty both of which began in 2008 in the colleges as our brightest young men and women rally to teach each other what they learn on their own and recruit others to the cause of individual freedom, limited government and sound money.

They are growing exponentially and are truly the hope for the future of our country.

Does anyone know where I can take old eyeglasses? I know the Lions Club used to have a collection box at the library, but haven’t seen it recently.

@Nancy I bring mine to Vision Associates on Main St. in Marlborough (next to the Vin Bin) when I go for appts. – but I have to think they’ll accept them even if you’re not a patient.

I think they are also accepted at the optical store at Southborough Medical. I took mine there last year.

Any revelations on the Route 85 road project? In July/August they said that design work would be made public in September, but it is November and I haven’t seen anything. Did I miss a big story? They have installed traffic monitoring devices along the length of the road, so something must be progressing.

Hello neighbors,

I’ve misplaced the business card for our chimney sweep. Any good recommendations?

Thanks!

I haven’t used one in many years but back when we did we used Chim Chiminey in Framingham. They were very good.

Hi all – Does anyone know what’s being filmed at 33 Oak Hill? There is a big film/production crew there today and they have been there a number of times over the past few months…
