Scholarships through GWCF – apply by March 7

Another organization has announced that scholarships are available to Southborough residents (as members of Worcester County).

Greater Worcester Community Foundation is accepting applications through March 7th.

A single application can be used to apply for many* of their scholarships with awards ranging from $3,000-$5,000:

The Greater Worcester Community Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications. High school seniors who live in Worcester County and seek college scholarships for the 2016 – 2017 academic year are encouraged to apply. Now in its 37th year of awarding college scholarships, awards ranging from $300 to $5,000 will be made to students based on a wide variety of criteria including financial need, area of study, ethnic origin, community involvement, high school, and place of residence.

Students may apply online by visiting www.greaterworcester.org. Scholarship applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2016.

Submitting a single application allows a student to be considered for any of the foundation’s 130 scholarships for which they are eligible.*

For more information, please contact Beckley Schowalter, Scholarship Program Manager at bschowalter@greaterworcester.org. The scholarship recipients will be announced June 2016.

*Though their release lists 130 scholarships, many exclude Southborough residents. (Some are limited to a specific high school or town.) But the listing is extensive with at least 35 covering Worcester County.

The eligibility criteria really run the gamut. The A-W (no Zs) listing ranges from “Wallace D. and Dorothy M. Andrews Scholarship” for African-American seniors pursuing a degree in bioscience, mathematics, engineering or physics to “Worcester Swedish Charitable Association Scholarship” for seniors of Scandinavian descent!
