The Southborough Library is holding a special story time for children on Saturday, January 30. Southborough’s Lorraine Gilmore will read her self-published picture book, Matilde.
Matilde is the story of a sad, mistreated donkey and the girl who rescues her. The story contains an important message for kids and their parents based on the author’s childhood.
Gilmore explained to the Community Advocate:
The importance of treating each other respectfully is the lesson that Gilmore hopes children and parents learn from the book. While writing the story, she reflected upon her personal experience with family including her late older brother and parents.
“Growing up, my oldest brother was extremely smart, thought everybody else was stupid and teased me a lot,” she shared. “And my parents were wonderful people, but they just didn’t get the training manual on me. I’m very happy now, but I would have been much happier when I was growing up if I had nurturing and praise. Children need to know when they’ve done a good job.” (read more)
The author donated a copy of Matilde to the Southborough Library, available for checkout. It is also available for purchase through Amazon.
The story time will take place at 10:30 am in the library’s Children’s Room. No registration is required.
