Southborough Wicked Local reports that the Route 9 Water Main project is still under way. Construction taking place from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm is cutting off access between Route 9 and Woodland Road.
Department of Public Works informed the media that the crew would be digging a trench across the intersection this morning. The access will be blocked until the trench is paved.
Over the previous two winters, problems with the Route 9 water main plagued Public Works (plus commuters and local residents) It’s the reason behind the Town’s work along Route 9 this year.
Work should have been on hold for the winter, but was apparently held up by a land dispute. (Meanwhile, the Town website still posts that work “will shut down for the winter on or about November 25”.)
Fortunately, a mostly mild winter has allowed the work to continue, getting the Town back on track. Project deadlines were coordinated to wrap final paving into MassDOT’s Route 9 work (and budget).
