Trottier basketball serves people in need – contributed:
Last week, boys from the Trottier basketball team, with their coach Tom St. Pierre, served dinner to the people at to Pearl Street Cupboard and Cafe in Framingham. A reader shared:
Pearl St Cafe is an organization that gives support to individuals and families who find themselves experiencing economical and personal challenges. They provide food and programs promoting self sufficiency.
Trottier Middle School is so lucky to have a Teacher/Coach like Tom. Who, not only sets a good example in the classroom and on the basketball court but is also a positive role model for our boys to look up to. (click thumbnail to enlarge)
MassBay student from Southborough picked as one of ’29 Who Shine’ – Southborough Wicked Local:
MassBay Community College announced Friday that General Studies student Abraham Guerrero of Southborough has been selected as the college’s representative for the Department of Higher Education’s “29 Who Shine” award.
In May 2011, the Department of Higher Education launched “29 Who Shine,” a commencement season awards program to recognize 29 outstanding student graduates from the state’s college and university system. Each honoree from a community college, state university or University of Massachusetts campus is nominated by a faculty or staff member, or by a university awards committee. . .
Guerrero works for the Natick School Department’s middle school afterschool program. He serves as both a deacon and assistant director for teens and young adults for his local church, and also helps in the programming for his congregation’s Bible school. (read more)
Local Composer to Hike and Create Symphony About the Appalachian Trail – contributed:
OK, this one isn’t actually a resident. But a home-town-boy-done-good is close enough. . .
Keane Southard, who grew up in Southborough and graduated from Algonquin Regional High School in 2005, will spend the summer hiking the New England portion of the Appalachian Trail and then will write a symphony based on the experience, commissioned by a consortium of orchestras throughout New England, each of which will premiere the work in the 2017-18 season. They are currently running an online crowdfunding campaign via Indiegogo in order to raise funds for the commission. (read more)
