The Greater Worcester Community Foundation is recruiting teen philanthropist and has reached out to our town.
Students from the classes of 2018 and 2019 can apply by May 20th to join a special grant making committee.
Next fall, the Youth for Community Improvement will make decisions on funding community programs for the Greater Worcester area. Last year, YCI awarded over $23,000.
Involvement in the group requires participating in weekly meetings in downtown Worcester. Those take place Wednesday afternoons from mid-September through mid-December at GWCF headquarters (370 Main Street).

Youth for Community Improvement Now Accepting Applications for Fall 2016 Program
Youth for Community Improvement (YCI), a teen grant making committee of Greater Worcester Community Foundation, is now accepting applications for its Fall 2016 Program. Incoming high school sophomores and juniors in Worcester County are encouraged to apply.
Entering its 17th year, YCI has engaged nearly 200 teens from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds since 1999 and awarded approximately $310,000 to 75 nonprofit organizations throughout Worcester County. The only non-school, youth grant making committee in our area, YCI empowers teens to make important funding decisions in the community and develop grant making and leadership skills. Last year, YCI granted more than $23,000 in funds for local organizations.
“We’re looking forward to building a strong and energetic class of 2016 that is representative of Worcester County teens,” said Sarah Shugrue, Program Officer. “These teens are passionate about making a difference in their communities and interested in learning more about how grant making and philanthropy are effective vehicles for change.”
Students should apply if they are eager to make a difference in their community, motivated and reliable, interested in teamwork and available Wednesdays 4-7PM 9/14 – 12/14. Visit www.greaterworcester.org to apply or contact Sarah Shugrue, (508) 755-0980 or sshugrue@greaterworcester.org
