It’s time for another open thread. What’s on your mind this week, Southborough?
For those of you new to the blog, the open discussion thread is your place to ask questions, sound off on town issues, or share information with other readers. Here are some suggestions to get you started:
- Ask questions about programs in town or the town itself
- Post a note about things that you’re selling or giving away, or things that you want
- Share notices about upcoming events (Southborough or otherwise)
- Register your thoughts on town issues or news stories
- Point out interesting or helpful resources
You can add comments to the thread throughout the week. Check back often to see new comments. (If you read the blog via email or RSS, you might want to check the site from time to time for new comments.)

Does anyone know where you can donate kids videos? Have lots of Disney classics!
The Friends of the Southborough Library accepts them to sell at the Book Sales. You can drop them off at the library.
Children’s Hospital will also take them for the community rooms for the kids who can actually get out of their rooms. I donated a huge box of them a year ago.
I stopped by the Senior Ctr. yesterday to get my Transfer Station Sticker (for us seniors) and wanted to say what a great service – wow !
Followed the signs, then pulled up to the service area.. Two nice young men gave a wave, checked my license plate #, came over to my car to verify my phone#, then remove old sticker and applied a new one.
They gave me farewell wave and thanks, and sent me on my way…took all of 3 minutes. Super job…I thank those that had a hand in implementing this program.
Well done…
FYI..just called the library they no longer take videos only DVDs.
The website for the transfer station stickers does not appear to be up and running yet- http://www.01772clerk.com- have you heard anything about this?
Town Clerk Jim Hegarty posted a reply to a comment under a related post on July 11th:
Hello,
Thank you for your patience! The website is up and working. I just tested it and bought my own Transfer Station stickers online.
Thank you!

Just purchased my dump stickers, it could not have been easier!! No fees for a credit card, that’s a nice change. BTW, the link in Sara’s post above will not work, it has an extra hyphen…the correct link is http://www.01772clerk.com/
Great job Jim Hegarty for bringing fresh ideas to our stuffy old town!!
Excellent service, vast improvement over the old way. And no surcharge for paying online like the kindergarten and school lunch payments!
Thank you Jim!
Where are the best places in the area for adults to swim? Open to community pools, swim clubs, lakes? I’ve found options online but would love to hear residents favorites!
Does anyone know whether there are any mobile carnivals in nearby towns this summer? Thanks.
This week there is a carnival from the 27th to the 30th at Holliston High School. It is presented by the Lions Club in that town. It starts at 5 pm on the weekdays and at noon on Saturday.
Enjoy!
Thank you Carol!
Hello. I am not from your town. I have an unusual question for town historians. In the 1960’s our parents would visit friends in Holliston. I have a strong memory of stopping to view buffalo! Were there buffalo grazing somewhere in your town back then? Am i just imagining this? Would we even have passed through Southborough to get to Holliston from Cambridge? My Dad is no longer here to ask. Any ideas appreciated. Thank you!
You remember correctly. I can’t find a better post in this one, but it does include reference to the Buffalo that I remember roaming near the buffalo farm store:
