Obituary: Calvin (Cal, Callie) J. Mauro, 90

Calvin (Cal, Callie) J. Mauro, 90, a lifelong resident of Southborough passed away peacefully at his home with family on Sunday, July 31st.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years Sylvia (Ordung) Mauro.

Calvin was the son of the late Joseph and Lucy (Pessolano) Mauro.

Cal was born on the Mauro family farm in Fayville. He loved and served the town of Southborough as a volunteer firefighter for 36 years, he worked on the Southborough Highway Department for 49 years, and he was appointed as a town special policeman for many years. He was a long time member of the Fayville Athletic Association and a member of the Southborough Firefighter’s Association.

He grew up on his parent’s dairy farm in Southborough, where he and his wife also chose to raise their family. It was the place he always called home. Cal was a man of few words but when he spoke you listened. He was a man of many talents, a craftsman, a fisherman, a boat builder and a practical joker. For those who knew Cal you knew him as a hardworking, giving, caring, and selfless man always willing to help anyone. He loved fishing and Cape Cod, but above all he loved his family. 

He is survived by his six children: Susan Storlazzi and her partner Tommy Magrini of Upton, Brian Mauro and his wife Diane of Mashpee, Lisa Schnare of Southborough, Jeanne Bannon and her husband Michael Bannon of Southborough, Rachel Mauro Puccio of Shrewsbury, and Sylvia Mauro and her fiancé Mark Elias of Barrington, NH. He leaves nine grandchildren: Heather Storlazzi-Ward and her husband Kevin, Jared Storlazzi and his wife Suzanne, Keziah Jusseaume and her husband Michael, Christopher Mauro and his wife Jessica, Nicholas Schnare and his wife Carolyn, Justin Schnare and his wife Ashley, Lindsay and Mariah Bannon, Erika Despo and her husband Michael as well as nine great grandchildren: Aiden and Asher Ward, Oliver Storlazzi, Eliza and Colby Jusseaume, Christopher Mauro, Alexandria and Nathan Schnare and Henry Schnare. He leaves his two brothers Johnny and Willy Mauro and their wives, a sister in law Maureen Remie as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held at Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Southborough on Friday, August 5th from 4:00-7:00 PM.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 6th at 10:00 AM at St Anne Church, 20 Boston Road, Southborough.
