The Sunday before Heritage Day was a rainy disappointment. Many of us had looked forward to capping off a festive day with the great annual lith pumpkin display “Light Up Southborough”. Unfortunately, (or as many children considered “tragically”), the pumpkin display was cancelled.
But earlier in the day, Chestnut Hill Farm welcomed the public to its Farm Festival despite the rain. (It was a bitter irony for the farmers who had been waiting for a rain like Sunday’s all summer long – only to have it finally show up on the one day they didn’t want it!)
It wasn’t the turnout a beautiful day would have brought, but many hearty New Englanders turned up to enjoy the festivities. (And some of us who weren’t feeling so hearty, but our kids were – so we went anyways!)
There was pumpkin decorating, a hay maze, performances, a goat milking contest, donut eating contest and pie baking contest. And some kids just enjoyed an excuse to splash in the mud.
