Does anyone know what business or building is going up on the eastern edge of route 9?
If you are referring to 6-8 Turnpike Road, that is going to be an automotive repair shop.
More controversially, there is also an application seeking a Use Variance to install a large digital billboard on that site. (The application was filed prior to the Town Meeting vote to strip the ZBA of Use Variance granting authority.) You can read more about that here.
Does anyone know the latest news about the Burnett / Garfield House? I can see that there’s some activity there (the windows in the little stone house just next to Deerfoot are blown out and perhaps they’re cleaning up the trees that fell in the recent storms), but can’t totally tell what’s going on. I may have missed some posts or news articles. If anyone knows or someone could point me to whatevet I might have missed online, that would be great. Thanks!

Restoration of the stone shop by Deerfoot Road is underway by craftsmen from Art Stonework. The shop was built in 1847 by/for the workers who built the mansion. Over the years it was repurposed several times, notably serving as living quarters for the manager of Deerfoot Farm, as the first Episcopal chapel in town and as a meeting place for the girl scouts, It is being converted now to an elegant little chapel for small weddings. (Think Martha Mary at the Wayside Inn.) This little building, considering the context of the adjacent historic dam and bridge will become an icon for Southborough.
