An update on Algonquin’s fall tournament bids.
T-Hawks Football, Volleyball, and Cheer teams made it all the way to their division finals this weekend. Sadly, none of them are moving on to state championships. But there is one team still left in the running.
This weekend, Girls Cross Country will compete in the state tournament. The team placed third in their district’s 5K run. And one runner, Tess Reyes came in fourth place overall.
Boys Cross Country didn’t qualify as a team. But one of their runners did. Noah Brazer came in 10th for the Boys’ 5K and will get to compete.
The All-State tournament is scheduled for this Saturday, November 19th at Gardner Municipal Golf Club. The Girls run at 12:30 pm and Brazer at 1:50 pm.
Volleyball had a phenomenal season, entering their division tourney as top-seed. But that ended when they were vanquished on Saturday by second seed Acton-Boxboro, 3-0.
Algonquin Football had their best season in decades. Last year they finally had a winning season, but just missed the playoffs. This year, they made it all the way to the division finals at Foley Stadium in Worcester. There, fans hearts were broken when the team was taken down 21-14 by Shrewsbury. (A team they had beaten just the month before.)
Still, the players have one more chance at victory on the field. They’ll be playing in the traditional Thanksgiving Day match against Westborough.
This year, they’ll be on Westborough’s turf. But they’ll be playing with the confidence of semi-final winners vs rivals who didn’t make it into the playoffs.
T-Hawks Cheerleaders competed in their regional competition on Sunday. They didn’t qualify for states, but did place fourth in their division.
