Reminder, today at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm the community is invited to view “Screenagers: Growing Up in a Digital Age” in the Trottier auditorium.
If you didn’t read my first post on this – the movie focuses on how tech time impacts development. And it suggests solutions to help kids best navigate the digital world and find balance.
The film is recommended to teens and tweens (grades 5th grade+ or even some 4th graders, depending on the child) and their parents, plus parents of young children and even individual adults.
The screening is sponsored by Southborough Youth and Family Services, Trottier Middle School and the SOS.
SYFS wants to help families deal with the “Digital Age”. They had been hearing from parents struggling to help their family find balance with devices. Many had family members struggling with technology addiction.
The agency decided to extend “Southborough Unscheduled” into a year long “Southborough Unplugged” initiative. As part of it, they looked into sharing the documentary with the public.
SYFS learned that it’s something that Trottier Middle School was already planning to screen the film for their students, thanks to support from the Southborough Organization for Schools (SOS). They asked if they could sign on as a co-sponsor.
With the additional funds, Trottier and SOS were able to host screenings for the wider community.
I asked SYFS Director Sara Cassel what age range the film is appropriate for. (If you feel a compulsion to check my blog too frequently, that may be you!)
