Open discussion thread: Ask questions, share opinions

Above: A reader shared his sighting of a bald eagle a few days ago near the reservoir behind 911 field. Unfortunately, he was armed only with an old smart phone. If anyone else has captured a better image, feel free to send it in. (image cropped from photo by Erik Domolky)

It’s time for another open thread. What’s on your mind this week, Southborough?

For those of you new to the blog, the open discussion thread is your place to ask questions, sound off on town issues, or share information with other readers. Here are some suggestions to get you started:

  • Ask questions about programs in town or the town itself
  • Post a note about things that you’re selling or giving away, or things that you want
  • Share notices about upcoming events (Southborough or otherwise)
  • Register your thoughts on town issues or news stories
  • Point out interesting or helpful resources

You can add comments to the thread throughout the week. Check back often to see new comments. (If you read the blog via email or RSS, you might want to check the site from time to time for new comments.)

I am so pleased that both the ZBA and the Planning board have rejected the zoning variance that would have allowed the 50 foot high digital billboard in our town. The attorney representing the applicant said that our zoning on this issue is outdated -because “digital” is the future. Of course digital is the future in many uses but not necessarily in the form of these highly garish, offensive billboards. Sometimes the future means that we maintain the zoning so as to avoid things that would destroy the character of Southborough forever.

I would like to ask residents to check and see if their nearest streetlights are working. If they are out, please give National Grid a call and have it logged. I called in 3 near my house and within 2 weeks they were repaired. During my one mile trip last night, I noticed over 6 that were out. You may also note the pole number when you make the call. The town gets billed for the light if it works or not, as there are no meters on streetlights.
Thanks

Thanks for the heads up, but you would think that this would be part of someone in the town’s job…
