This week, Algonquin Boys Ice Hockey won their season opener, which was also the first game in the Boroughs Cup. This weekend, they defend their title as last year’s cup champions.
The boys beat Marlborough 5-1 on Wednesday. The same night, Wachusetts beat Westborough. (Though, I’m a little puzzled how Wachusetts qualifies as a “borough”.)
That means that Gonk Hockey will be taking on Wachusetts for the final Saturday night at 8:10 pm at North Star Ice Sports in Westborough.
Southborough Wicked Local posted of Wednesday’s game:
In the second game of the night, John Paterson scored two goals for Algonquin’s high-powered offense, which hasn’t lost a step despite the Tomahawks having a new look to their roster from last season’s Division 3 Central sectional championship squad.
The Tomahawks scored only one even-strength goal with three coming on the power play and one shorthanded. Senior Kevin Reale scored with 2.8 seconds remaining in the first period, a huge spark for Algonquin, and then the Tomahawks opened the floodgates in the second. Sean Prendergast and Tommy Ackill assisted.
