The Foundation for MetroWest is recruiting teen philanthropists and has reached out to our town. They are looking for students from Southborough to join their group.
High school students in can apply by January 9th to join the special grant making committee. With the promo line “Connect. Lead. Give” the group is recruiting youth to “Change the world today.”
The Youth in Philanthropy group makes decisions on funding community programs for the MetroWest area. Members:
research local organizations – becoming aware of community needs and performing site visits. As a group, they evaluate and discuss their experiences. Then select and award the Foundation’s youth development grants.
Involvement in the group requires participating in weekly meetings in Sudbury. Those take place Tuesday evenings beginning January 24th.
Here is more background from their website:
The Foundation for MetroWest’s Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program is one of the largest youth philanthropy education programs in the country. We believe that if you teach youth to give, you empower them to change the world. . .
Since inception, over 1,100 students have participated in the Youth in Philanthropy program who have awarded over $1,000,000 to local youth-serving nonprofits.
The Youth in Philanthropy impact begins at the student level. Students learn and gain a better understanding of philanthropy. They research local organizations – becoming aware of community needs and performing site visits. As a group, they evaluate and discuss their experiences. Then select and award the Foundation’s youth development grants.
