Events this week: Senior sing-a-long, conversations on war, Raising Digital Natives, and kids art (Updated)

  • Lake Williams Wordsmiths Toastmasters Club Open House (12:00 – 1:00 pm) @ Southborough Library: See a typical meeting, enjoy light refreshments and a chance to win an Amazon gift card! Toastmasters is a great way to improve public speaking skills in a fun, supportive and self-paced environment. Participation can offer help with speaking and presenting compellingly, becoming a stronger leader, listening effectively and thinking quickly and clearly.

  • Growing Up During Times of War: Media Then and Now (10:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Fay School: Southborough Seniors are invited to a special event with 9th grade Fay School students. Engage in conversation about what it’s like to grow up during a time of war. The free event includes lunch and small group discussions. To sign up, call the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.   • Raising Digital Natives talk (7:00 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library, Main Level: Devorah Heitner, PhD will offer suggestions about key media issues to discuss with your child. Learn how you can create a smart tech culture in your family where you lead by example. The talk is co-sponsored by Southborough Youth and Family Services, Southborough Village Preschool and The Friends of the Southborough Library. For details, see dedicated post.

  • ARHS open skating (6:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School, 79 Bartlett St, Northborough, Tennis Courts: Open skating supervised by the Algonquin Student Council Admission is $2 per person.   • Art Workshop for Children (10:30 am – 12:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, Eaton Meeting Room: Children ages 5-9 are invited to be a part of the drop in art workshops. (Siblings allowed.) This session, participants will create Valentine Sand Paintings. Registration is not required. The workshop will be run by Bigelow Center for the Arts; Lanting Huang-Truong. Sponsored by the Community Fund, a fund of the Foundation for Metrowest.

  • Finn Special Person Dance (3:00 – 5:00 pm) @ Finn School: The event is for pre-registered Finn students and a parent or other special adult in their lives. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Skate Party for St. Jude’s (6:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Roller Kingdom, Hudson: Organized by a Southborough family, this event is a fundraiser for St. Jude’s Hospital. Southborough families are invited to join them for the cause. For more details, click here.
