Tragic news breaking this morning. An approximately 20 year old man was apparently killed after being struck by a train in Southborough before 1:30 am this morning.
The initial report didn’t include the young man’s identity. Later this morning, local media reports identified the deceased as Daniel Cooney of New Jersey, age 20.

Death Investigation
On April 9, 2017 at approximately 1:25AM Transit Police units assigned to the South District received a radio call to respond to the Southborough Commuter Rail station for a report of a person possibly struck by a train. Multiple Transit Police along with Southborough Fire and EMS responded. Transit police personnel on scene report the following preliminary information: a male, approximate age of 20, while trespassing on the right of way was struck by a CSX freight train in the vicinity of Southville Road. The male has been pronounced deceased as a result injuries sustained.
Transit Police detectives along with representatives of the Worcester County DA’s Office are currently investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident. Foul play is NOT suspected.
