This spring, the Economic Development Committee published a new resource for businesses.
The Permitting Guide walks businesses through the processes for opening a new business in town or changing/expanding existing facilities.
You can find the guide to view or download from EDC’s Developing Business page.
The guide walks businesses through steps by the type of business or by what they want to do. (Check out the Table of Contents, right.)
EDC launched the guide at the end of March.
Earlier this month, links were posted to relevant pages throughout the Town’s and EDC’s website. And a printed copy can be picked up at Town Hall.
The project is part of EDC’s ongoing efforts to encourage business development. And it’s sure to come up at this week’s Annual Town Meeting when the EDC asks voters to ratify them as a standing committee. (The ad hoc group has been talking about seeking a more permanent status since last spring.)
It may even be raised tonight as the EDC asks voters to approve a 9.56% increased budget. The increase is mostly based on “an increase in the Coordinator’s pay rate that corresponds with a revised job description matching current responsibilities”. The EDC also plans to launch a Shop Local promotional video and event next year.
Those expenses are partially offset by cost savings from the reduction in printing as they rely heavier on digital platforms.
The budget increase was a topic of much discussion at Selectmen’s meeting with the Advisory Committee this month. After debate, compromises on other budgets, and EDC’s promise to work with Advisory on how to “better” track its impact in the future, Advisory agreed to support the increase.
