This past Monday was Memorial Day. But our community didn’t wait for the weekend to begin remembering service members. Here are some highlights from community events honoring the holiday.
On May 18th, Algonquin held a ceremony honoring the memory of fallen soldier, Algonquin alum Brian Arsenault. You can see the “ARHS / MA Fallen Heroes / Brian Arsenault Memorial Ceremony” video by Northborough Cable Access below:
Last Thursday, Woodward 3rd graders invited families, Southborough Seniors and veterans to their annual patriotic concert. (See pic right.)
On Friday morning, Trottier held a viewing of Southborough Veterans : Local Life Lessons – the documentary produced by Southborough Access Media – for students and guests.
That evening, members of the public joined veterans, Town officials and Southborough scouts in replacing flags at the graves of veterans in the rural cemetery.
On Monday, Algonquin and Trottier bands played for the parade of veterans, Assabet Jr. ROTC members, scouts and government officials. Participants proceeded through the Town’s cemeteries and Memorials for a two hour remembrance of soldiers’ sacrifices.
Here are some photos from the day. (Southborough Access Media also captured the event. But that video isn’t available yet.)
In time to ship packages before Memorial Day, Southborough’s new Selectwoman Lisa Braccio resurrected the Troop Care Package Drive earlier this month. The goods and letters were collected to show support to service members currently putting their lives at risk for us.
On behalf of the Veterans of Southborough -I extend our thanks and gratitude to all who joined us – not only on Friday night at the cemetery but for attending our Memorial Day Observances. The showing of residents on a questionable weather day was in fact very much appreciated. It is our mission and duty to remember those who have paid the ultimate price for this nation and to never be forgotten.
Thank you all for joining us.
Thank you very much all who honored those who gave all!
