Post-season sports: Volleyball, Baseball, & Tennis to Quarter Finals; Outdoor Track to All State (Updated)

It’s officially spring post-season in high school sports. And all but one team made the playoffs. Plus more individual athletes have already snagged big wins.

The division championship for Outdoor Track was held over the weekend. With first place wins in three events, Algonquin Girls placed third.* Algonquin Boys came only ranked 18th. Both teams will send athletes on to the All State Championships this Saturday, June 3rd at Bridgewater State University.

With a Bye on the First Round, Boys Volleyball heads into its Quarter Finals today undefeated. They’ll play 8th seed Worcester Tech at St. John’s in Shrewsbury. That takes place this afternoon at 3:30 pm.

Lacrosse teams play in their First Rounds today. 6th seed Girls will have home field advantage against 11th seed Tantasqua. Both teams lost their last two games going into the tourney. They’ll also play at 3:30 pm today.

9th seed Boys Lacrosse will visit East Longmeadow to play the upper seed team at 7:00 pm this evening. Both Boys teams won their last two games. If Gonk makes it past the First Round, it will go up against top seed Longmeadow for the Quarter Final.

Last night, Baseball tweeted news that they came up 4th seed and will be hosting North Middlesex on Monday, June 5th, at 4:00 pm.  They earned a Bye on the First Round, so they’ll be playing in the Quarter Finals against the lower seed team.

[Editor’s Note: There’s been some shuffling since. First, they were realigned to play Nashoba in the Quarter Finals. And as of Friday afternoon, the Boys tweeted that the game was moved up to this Saturday, June 3rd at 5:00 pm. Presumably, the game is still set to be played on their home field.]

Boys Rugby earned a Bye on the Quarter Finals. They’ll compete against upper seed Milton in the Semi-finals this Friday night, June 2nd, 5:00 pm at Curry College.

Girls Rugby has a couple more weeks to practice before heading straight to their Division Finals. They’ll face off against top seed Belmont at Endicott College on June 10th.

Top seed Boys Tennis and 2nd seed Girls earned Byes on their First Round. They’ll both host the Quarter Finals on Friday, June 2nd, at 3:00 pm – opponents TBD.

As I previously reported, one duo snagged the division doubles title in the individual tennis tourney. Their state championship won’t take place until June 17th.

Yesterday, Algonquin Girls Golf were slotted to play through their sectionals at Gardener Municipal Golf Course. But, I haven’t had luck tracking down results yet.

The only team that’s out this year is Softball. With a 14-4 record, the team didn’t make playoffs.

*Congrats to the first place athletes at the Outdoor Track division championships: RaiAnn Bu Girls – Pole Vault; Elizabeth (Zibby) Gibbon – 100 Meter Hurdles; and Tess Reyes – 1 Mile Run.
