A couple of weeks ago, I warned you to save the dates for the Southborough Summer Concert Series.
But, the first concert is coming up quick. (And on a busy night.) So, it’s time for an update.
Next Thursday, headliners Knock on Wood will kick off the series. Promoters describe the “lively, acoustic duo”:
With acoustic guitar and fiddle in hand, they look like an Appalachian folk music duo. Looks can be deceiving, however.
Howie Newman and Steve Latanision, also known as Knock on Wood, are anything but a typical folk combo. They play well-known rock covers and funny original songs (suitable for all ages). Their varied repertoire includes everything from Steely Dan to the Eagles to the Everly Brothers.
The concert is just the first of five bi-weekly free concerts scheduled for Thursdays this summer. For more details on the series schedule, click here.
As always, the concert is on the lawn. So, bring blankets, chairs (and bug spray).
Dinner is being handled differently than in past years. You can still bring your own picnic at the concert. But, instead of a volunteer-run refreshment stand – organizers are bringing in a fun food truck for each event. (Next week, look for extreme dogs sold by The DogFather.) And desserts will be sold by Yummy Mummy.
The music series is again run by Southborough Youth & Family Services and the Recreation Department. It is also co-sponsored by: Friends of Southborough Youth Commission, Southborough Cultural Arts Commission, and Friends of Southborough Recreation, and Mercedes Benz of Shrewsbury.
Updated (6/14/17 11:27 am): SYFS tells me that they had to switch T-shirt vendors. So I removed mention of that sponsorship.
