Town volunteer vacancies: ZBA Alternate, Public Safety Building (with construction experience), Open Space, and 7 more committees

A week ago, selectmen discussed the annual expiration of appointed board and committee terms on June 30th. While most members have agreed to be reappointed, there are several spots that will need to be filled.

Among those vacancies are an alternate member of the Zoning Board of Appeals and two spots on the Open Space Preservation Commission.

Selectman plan to make re-appointments and at least one new appointment at this week’s meeting. (That is now taking place on Wednesday night at 6:30 pm. Note that it won’t be recorded.)

Last Tuesday, the Purple’s office was still waiting to hear back from several Town committee members with expiring terms. As of yesterday afternoon, vacancies on the following committees were confirmed without potential candidates listed:

  • Affordable Housing Trust Fund Committee
  • Americans with Disabilities Act Committee
  • Historical Commission
  • Main Street Design Working Group
  • Open Space Preservation Commission
  • Southboro Housing Opportunity Partnership Committee
  • Southborough Scholarship Advisory Committee
  • Southborough Stewardship Committee
  • Southborough Trails Committee
  • Taxation Aid Committee
  • Zoning Board of Appeals – Alternate member

Which means, there is still time to apply.

In addition, there is one vacancy left on the newly created Public Safety Building Committee. As I posted earlier, selectmen are seeking someone with relevant construction experience.

The completed form and an attached resume should either be submitted to the Selectman’s office (at Southborough Town House, 17 Common Street), or emailed to selectmensoffice@southboroughma.com.

Two other committees have vacancies that the Town is holding off on filling.

Town Meeting voters approved forming new standing committees to replace existing Ad Hoc committees – Economic Development Committee and Municipal Technology Committee. Those need to be approved by the state before current members can be rolled over. Town Administrator Mark Purple advised selectmen to wait until that happens before recruiting new members.
