It’s the last week of school and Algonquin’s spring sports have finally drawn to a close. Below is the final wrap-up of how it all played out. But first, some news on next season.

Last month, T-Hawks football lost coach Justin McKay to a school just around the corner from his home and family. The beloved head coach had been credited for turning around the team. The Telegram posted the school’s choice for moving forward will continue that work:

In a bid to make sure the process the football program has made in recent years remains constant, Algonquin promoted assistant coach Taylor Allen to the head position on Saturday.

“It’s a great feeling,” Allen said. “I love these kids, and I have a very strong relationship with a lot of them. When Justin left, there was some thought to go with him, but it would have hurt me not to have stuck it out with these kids. The interview process was tough, but I think I showed I am capable of continuing with what we built here.”

The 27-year-old Taylor has coached at Algonquin for the past two seasons, primarily coaching the tight ends and serving as the JV team’s offensive coordinator. Taylor starred at tight end and long snapper at Endicott College and had a tryout with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012.

Now, back to spring sports. . .

On Sunday, Algonquin doubles Riyan Farhat and Christian Jorgensen beat Longmeadow in the State Semi-Finals for Individual Boys Tennis (6-0, 6-2). That afternoon, the duo went up against Acton-Boxboro’s seniors for the Finals and lost 6-0, 7-5. Algonquin’s players are both sophomores, now with two district championships under their belts. So, hopefully they’ll get another shot at the state title next year.

Girls Rugby got their shot at the State Finals last Saturday. Belmont came from behind to outscore Algonquin 17-14. You can read about that here in the Boston Globe.

Two members of the Algonquin Outdoor Track team made top ten at the New England Tournament last weekend. Everett Pirtle came in 9th for Boys 400 meter dash. And 10th in the Girls Pole Vault competition was RaiAnn Bu.

Westboro/Algonquin Girls Golf played at States last Wednesday. The team came in 5th place.
