The next concert in Southborough’s summer series is a week from tonight.
Next Thursday, headliners Twisted Pine will play indie music on string instruments:
Full of energy and surprise, wit and subtlety, Twisted Pine has quickly become one of the most acclaimed young string bands in the Northeast. Audiences across the US and UK have been drawn to their forthright songwriting, lush harmonies, musical daring, and “charismatic appeal,” to quote Grammy-winner Alison Brown.
In its early days, Twisted Pine hewed pretty close to its bluegrass origins, but over time the quartet has developed a unique, infectious style without limits.
(Of course, if you want to understand a band’s sound, listening is much better than reading. For a sample of their style, scroll down to the video at the bottom of the post.)
The concert is the second of five bi-weekly free concerts scheduled for Thursdays (6:00 – 8:00 pm) at Neary School (53 Parkerville Road). For the series schedule, click here.
As always, the concert is on the lawn. So, bring blankets, chairs (and bug spray).
As I’ve previously posted, this year, dinner will be sold via a specialized food truck (next week is Travelin’ Bones: BBQ) and a dessert stand (Yummy Mummy). Or bring your own picnic to the concert.
The music series is again run by Southborough Youth & Family Services and the Recreation Department. It is also co-sponsored by: Friends of Southborough Youth Commission, Southborough Cultural Arts Commission, and Friends of Southborough Recreation, and Mercedes Benz of Shrewsbury.
Now here’s the sample I promised. This tune was an instant favorite for me:
Note: next week’s concert doesn’t have a rain date. So, cross your fingers for good weather.
