At the core of Southborough’s Heritage Day is the annual parade and the booths on St. Mark’s Field.
I’ll be posting details about the parade later today. (Click here for links to all my Heritage Day weekend coverage.) For now, I want to focus on the exhibitors.
I invited exhibitors to share information on free fun they are offering, fundraisers, and items for sale. Here’s what I learned from the ones who responded. (I’m sure there is a lot more worth exploring.)*
For a Cause
Let’s start with the fundraisers. You can support many causes by shopping on the field:
- Susan G. Komen fundraiser for breast cancer research – No More Goodbyes will be donating proceeds from sale of ribbon covered headbands, hair clips and key chains
- People with Intellectual Disabilities – Knights of Columbus will be giving out Tootsie Rolls and encouraging donations
- Town scholarships – The Southborough Scholarship Committee will be giving out fidget spinners and giant candy bars and encouraging donations
- Grants to Southborough & Algonquin educators – Southborough Education Fund will take orders for SOBO apparel and gifts
- Southborough Food Pantry – Boy Scouts from Troop 92 will be selling cookies, brownies, bars and popcorn.
- Beautification of Southborough – Southborough Gardeners will be raising funds by selling small bags of daffodil bulbs with kid friendly planting instructions; pumpkin planters; cook books; handy burlap bags; tickets to annual Guest Day event; and raffle tickets to Gardening Tool Kit and bird houses.
- Cancer Research – Sandie Rossini donate a portion of her proceeds from her sales. Items include apparel celebrating the fight against cancer
- Girl Scout Troop activities. Look for girls selling:
- Krispy Kreme donuts (baked fresh that morning) for Brownie Troop 69242
- Jars of candy (and a raffle for a 5+ lb jar of candy) for GS Troop 89255
- Photo booth posing with “characters” and telling “fun fortunes” for GS Troop 75014
Free Stuff
If you’re looking for free fun for kids, swing by these booths:
- Crafts for all ages (mosaic collage postcards) by Bigelow Center for the Arts
- Play a cornhole beanbag toss to win a prize from At Number 10
- Toss a beanbag to win other prizes from The Friends of the Southborough Library
Don’t worry, there’s free stuff for you to enjoy, too:
- Complimentary seated massages by Theracopia Therapeutic Wellness Center
- Try out safe and luxuriant lotions from Safe Haven
Of course, what’s an exhibit area without free giveaways. If that’s your thing, (while supplies last) look out for:
- forget-me-not seed sticks and “Animal Inside” window clings from Renewal by Andersen
- goody bags and balloons from The Dental Oasis of Metrowest
- candy from the Southborough Education Fund
- candy from the Southborough Gardeners
[Technically, The Southborough Scholarship Committee and Knights of Columbus are giving out freebies. But each are encouraging donations to their causes in exchange – so look under fundraisers for that.]
If you’re in it to win it, you may want to enter free drawings for these prizes:
- $10,000 in replacement windows and doors from Renewal by Andersen
- $200 gift bag of merchandise from Sandie Rossini
- $25 Gift Certificate from Pure Haven
- Teeth whitening, movie tickets and a starbucks gift certificate from The Dental Oasis of Metrowest
Don’t think that the info above means the only food for sale on the field will be sweets and treats. As always, the field will be lined with several food vendors. Expect to see the usual suspects selling fare like pizza, sausages, subs, and much more. (And if you’re peckish in the morning, swing by The Friends of the Southborough Library sale across the street. The bake sale always includes some kind of quick loaf breads.)
