The Special election is on Tuesday. So, if you haven’t picked your candidate, this weekend is a good time to bone up on who they are and what they stand for.
As of today, each candidate has submitted a statement to share with blog readers. Click here for those.
Earlier this week, the Candidates addressed issues at the Autumn Candidates’ Night. You can read a brief recap of a couple of issues here.
But there were a lot more topics covered. You can click here to open the full video. Or to see candidates’ responses to questions on specific issues you care about, click on links below.
Audience questions covered:
- Current conflict of interests and how to handle them,
- Proactive town planning,
- using private partnerships to get things done (like the Golf Course),
- fiscal responsibility and ability to say no to ideas with merit that we can’t afford,
- easing tax burdens for residents that may get “slammed” by federal tax changes,
- Flagg Road safety,
- Rec project issues like Choate Field (directed at Rec Commission Chair Brian Shifrin),
- Conservation Restriction on the St. Mark’s Golf Course,
- history of conflict of interest admonishments,
- increasing citizen participation in Town Meeting,
- third party monitoring of conflict of interest,
- financial oversight of the public safety building,
- and increasing affordable housing.
I consider it unfair this late in the game to lob public criticisms or loaded questions aimed at individual candidates through blog comments.
Feel free to post comments endorsing candidates.
Beth, thanks for your time in doing this summarization! Let’s hope the voters show up to express their opinion with the ballot!
