Six Algonquin teams competed in post-season tournaments over the weekend. For most of those athletes, it was the end of their Fall championship journey.
Boys and Girls Soccer teams both played and lost their CMass D1 Finals.
Marlborough shut out the Boys 3-0 on Friday night. On Saturday, Wachusetts remained undefeated, beating the Girls 2-1. (Looking to relive the drama? The Telegram recapped the plays. Click the links for coverage of the Boys and Girls games.)
Cross Country teams ran in their Central Regionals at the Gardner Municipal Golf Course on Saturday. Neither team made All States, but three of their runners qualified.
Junior Tess Reyes came in 3rd place for the Girls. For the Boys, Andrew Michalik came in 12th and Jonathan Symons at 22nd. They’ll be running in the All State Championship this Saturday at Wrentham Development Center.
Yesterday, Algonquin Cheerleaders performed in their own competitions on Sunday. In the Central/West Regionals the Performance Cheer team finished 5th. That afternoon, Game Day Cheer came in 4th in the State Finals.
That leaves one team still vying for a state title. As I posted last week, Gonk Field Hockey faces Longmeadow in the State Semi-Finals today. The game has been scheduled for 5:00 pm at Grafton High School.
