Trottier students taking the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics (or chickening out for the cause) – Feb 15

Trottier Middle School is hosting a special Special Olympics fundraiser this winter.

polar plunge (photo from fundraiser website)On February 15th, Special Olympics MA is bringing its “Polar Plunge” pool to the school. The fundraising site promotes:

For the first time ever, dozens of brrrrave students at Trottier Middle School are taking the Plunge. The best part? After their bodies return to 98.6 degrees and the donations are tallied, they’ll have raised funds for Special Olympics Massachusetts!

Barring an unexpected heat wave, the water promises to be pretty frigid. Which is why some people who want to help out may be too chicken to make the jump.

Fear not, the fundraiser also includes a “chicken coop” option for participants who sign up to raise fund while staying dry. (Plus, there’s a third option for “virtual plungers” who can’t be there that day.)

Students and faculty are encouraged to register, complete a waiver and raise at least $25 by February 9th. Participants can use the event website to setup their own fundraising pages. (A few have already taken steps.)

The event website details

Trottier Middle School’s Polar Plunge is not your average dip! Be a part of THE event of the winter and join us for the first-ever Polar Plunge where, by raising $25 or more in donations, Plungers take a quick dip in the pool to raise funds for Special Olympics Massachusetts, the state’s largest year-round organization devoted to sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

The event is open to Trottier Middle School students, faculty and staff. Plungers under 18 will require a parent/guardian signature. A printable version of the waiver can be found on the home page. Spectators are welcome, free of charge. All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Massachusetts.

Registration will open immediately after school lets out, at 2:25pm and continue until 2:40pm. Following registration, we’ll have a quick safety briefing. We will plunge at 2:45pm. The entire event will wrap up in time for the Late Buses at 3:50pm.

Fundraising Incentives All plungers will receive a small thank-you gift for supporting Special Olympics. Any plungers who fundraise $100 or more will be automatically entered into a raffle for a sweet prize!

The event is also sponsored by The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) – a year-round fundraising and awareness building program, designed to allow members of the law enforcement community the opportunity to support Special Olympics athletes who live, work and compete in their local communities. The group has been involved in past polar plunges, which is presumably where the top photo was taken.
