This Sunday, Assabet Valley Mastersingers is holding a special concert in Southborough. The singing group will be accompanied by an organ in a fitting setting – Pilgrim Church.
The group will perform Choral Gems for Romantic Organ and Choir on Sunday, March 11th at 3:30 pm. The works are described as “three rarely-heard short masses specifically written for organ and chorus by some of the Romantic era’s greatest masters of choral music.”
Of course, I always believe hearing is better than reading when it comes to musical performances. So, here’s a clip I found of a rehearsal shared on AVM’s Facebook page:
Tickets for Sunday’s concert can be purchased at the door for $25 for general admission and $20 for senior citizens and students. They are also available for pre-purchase at some locations at a $3 discount*.
Here are more details from AVM’s press release:
CHORAL GEMS FOR ROMANTIC ORGAN AND CHOIR will feature Mass in f minor by Joseph Rheinberger, Missa Choralis by Franz Liszt, and Solemn Mass by Louis Vierne at Pilgrim Church, 15 Common St. in Southborough. Rheinberger’s finely crafted classically styled writing, avoiding the programmatic descriptions so popular with other Romantic composers, will present a sharp contrast to the dense textures of Vierne and the chromaticism of Liszt.
Under the leadership of AVM founder and Artistic Director Robert P. Eaton accomplished organist Brett Maguire will provide accompaniment to the chorus of approximately 65 members. In the past 39 years Assabet Valley Mastersingers has gained praise for performance excellence and innovative programming in Central Massachusetts and takes pride in a history of hiring professional vocal soloists and instrumentalists who enjoy the collaboration. . .
Pilgrim Church is accessible to the physically challenged, and large print programs will be available. For further information please call (978) 562-9838 or reference www.AVMsingers.org.
