This summer, for the first time, the Northborough and Southborough Public Schools will offer “enrichment” classes over break. The K-8 classes will be held at Trottier Middle School.
Students from either town can take up to six classes this summer. Subjects offered fall under the STEAM umbrella: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. The classes will be taught by district educators.
The schools sent out the announcement at the start of Spring break. It wasn’t much notice considering the the registration deadline is Friday, April 27th at 4:00 pm.
The program will be offered for three weeks in July, and up to two classes can be taken per week. Most classes will be held for 45 minutes for just three days (Tues – Thurs for one week). Two math classes for middle schoolers will branch all three weeks, making them nine days long:
Session 1 will start at 8:15 a.m. and end at 9:45 a.m. and; Session 2 will start at 10:00 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m. Students attending both sessions will have a fifteen minute break each day from 9:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Classes cover a range of subjects includeing Storybook STEM, Gardening, Be a Music Producer, and Building the Foundation of Algebra. For more details, click here.
Sessions are offered July 10-12; July 17-19 and July 24-26. The fee is $75 per class.
The district is reserving the right to cancel classes for low enrollment – but they plan to make any cancellation announcements by May 11th and payment isn’t due until May 25th. (In fact, they are asking parents not to pay until they receive an invoice.)
Let’s go for STEAM/STEM education! Enrolling your kids in such programs will help them prepare for a bigger and brighter future! Parents play an important role in a child’s education.

Is it possible to still register for the STEAM enrichment program for my 6 year old?
Unfortunately, the program didn’t get off the ground for this summer, due to low enrollment. They hope to be able to publicize it earlier this coming year and launch it next summer.
