Musically, Southborough has an embarrassment of riches a week from today.
Earlier, I posted about Trottier’s Big Band’s Evening of Jazz for the community. Next Thursday is also the night that the annual Southborough Summer Concert Series kicks off .
The free, family friendly concerts are being put on by Town agencies and non-profits again this summer. That means, I’m overdue in asking you to save some dates in your calendar.
The first concert is June 14th with headliner Soul Intensity.
The free, family-friendly concert takes place at the Neary School fields (53 Parkerville Road) from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
As always, the concert is on the lawn. So, bring blankets/chairs, and bug spray.
The concert is just the first of five bi-weekly free concerts scheduled for Thursdays this summer through August 9th. (Same time and same place. Scroll down for the full schedule.)
Dinner is being handled the same as last year. You can still bring your own picnic at the concert. But you can also expect food trucks/vendors at each event. Next week features “Say Cheese” (with gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches) and Yummy Mummy (selling desserts).
Of course, since it’s a concert, you’re probably wondering about the music. Next week’s band describes itself as:
R&B Soul Music from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s & 90’s, and a sprinkling of Current Hit Songs
Our Band consists of 5 talented musicians, all who have played in various other bands during the Rock, Disco, and Motown eras, and now have come together to form this band Soul-Intensity.
I always say the music speaks louder than words. So, here’s a sample from the band’s performance of “It’s All Right.”
The music series is again run by Southborough Youth & Family Services and the Recreation Department. It is also co-sponsored by: Friends of Southborough Youth Commission, Southborough Cultural Arts Commission, and Friends of Southborough Recreation.
More upcoming concerts are scheduled for 6:00 pm on the following Thursdays:
- June 28 – The Rampage Trio
- July 12 – The Unholy Mackerels
- July 26 – Throwback to the 60’s
- August 9 – Midtown Horns
For each concert, the rain date is the following week. (I’ll try to notify on the blog when I know a concert is being postponed. But you can check yourself on the date by calling 508-485-0710 and press 8.)
