Reminder – get your new Transfer Station before September 15th

This is both a warning and reassurance about this year’s Transfer Station permits. With Saturday marking the first of September, I wanted to reassure readers driving around with last year’s stickers. You can still dump trash in the hopper this weekend (and the next). But, you’ll need to get your new sticker soon.

Starting on Saturday, September 15th, anyone without the new stickers will be turned away. So here’s a reminder of how to register this year.

Residents again have options for purchasing the sticker online, through the mail, or in person at the Clerk’s office.

But, there are some eligibility issues. The main one is being listed on the Town Census. The Town Clerk’s dedicated page notes:

  1. Residents must be listed on the Town Census.
    a. If you are a new resident and you are not listed on the census, you must come to the Clerk’s office to complete a census form and to purchase your sticker. You cannot use the online or mail-in options.
  2. Stickers may not be transferred to, nor used by another resident to avoid the purchase of additional stickers.
  3. Stickers must be used on cars owned by the same family at the same address.
  4. Seniors born on or before 12/31/1953 will not be charged for the first 2 stickers.
  5. Anyone with an unpaid fine will not be issued a Transfer Station sticker.
    a. Contact DPW to pay the fine.

As for how to make the purchase, the website offers options for paying online or by mailed in form. For either of those, expect to receive your sticker in the mail about a week later. Or you can pick up your sticker by paying in person at the Clerk’s office in Town Hall. (Those hours are generally Monday/Wednesday/Thursday 8am – 5pm, Tuesday 8am – 7pm, Friday, 8am-noon.)

As for what you do once you get your sticker – the Town reminds that stickers can’t be taped to the inside windshield:

The transfer station permit must be permanently affixed on the outside of the vehicle on the vertical surface of the driver’s side front bumper or the drivers side front windshield on the vehicle permitted.
