Paul J. Conti, 86, of Southborough passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at St Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester.
He was the devoted husband of Jean (Scott) Conti who died in 2013.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late Egidio and Ruth (Wetherby) Conti. Paul graduated from Worcester Academy in 1950 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Norwich University in 1954.
After graduation he was commissioned as a second Lieutenant and received orders at Fort Knox, KY assigning him to Germany.
Before embarking for Germany, Paul married Jean and took her with him overseas where he served for two years as an Armored Tank Officer in the Tank Co of the 47th Inf. Regiment in New Ulm, Germany. Their first son was born in Augsburg, Germany. While in Europe they skied the Swiss and German Alps, visited Austria, Italy, France, Belgium, Denmark, and Spain. After his discharge, Paul worked in many capacities for Rexnord Corp, retiring as District Sales Manager in 2001.
He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, and served many years on the vestry. Paul was a 57 year member of Matthew John Whittall Lodge of Shrewsbury, a 32nd degree Mason; a life member of the Consistory Valley of Boston; and a member of Aleppo Temple Shriners of Wilmington. He was also a member of Worcester Country Club; Military Officer’s Association of America; past president of the Southborough Lion’s Club; and a member of the Fayville Athletic Association. Paul was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed summers on Cape Cod; seasonal visits to their Condo in Lincoln , NH; extensive travels to Europe and the Caribbean; photography, coin collecting, and playing cards with his poker club. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his love of his family and strength of character.
Paul is survived by his children, Mark A. Conti and his wife Susan of Southborough; P. Scott Conti and his wife Jeanne of Marlborough; David W. Conti and his life partner, Sheila M. Daly of Shrewsbury and W. Roxbury; his grandchildren, Elizabeth E. Doughty and her husband Joshua; Emily J. Conti and Peter J. Conti.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 2, from 4 to 7pm at the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Southborough.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 3, at 10:30 am at St Mark’s Episcopal Church, 27 Main Street, Southborough. Burial will follow in the Southborough Rural Cemetery.
