I’d consider the 12th Annual Gobble Wobble a surprising success. Yes, turnout was far lower than the usual turnout of about 1,000. But the number of runners and walkers that did brave the record-breaking cold temps shows how much love people have for the event.
A flock of runners, walkers, volunteers, and cheering onlookers took time out of their Thanksgiving morning over to participate in the annual Friends of Southborough Recreation fundraiser.
As usual, the 5k race sported a mix of serious runners and those trotting for fun. There was also a wide range of ages. Out of 485 runners, 12 were listed as aged 10 or under and 35 in the 50+ group. You can find the race results here.
Another 32 participants walked 2 miles on a morning that didn’t beckon for a stroll. (I don’t have official actual temps for the 8:30 am start. But it was predicted to be below 0 with wind chill.)
Plus, some kids apparently thought it was a good enough day to take a fun run around the track.
I wasn’t hearty enough of a New Englander to join this year’s fun. Thankfully, in addition to the quick video above, Southborough Recreation posted a couple of pics from registration. Plus, some participants shared their pics with the world.
