It may seem a bit deja vu, but. . .
This summer, for the first time, the Northborough and Southborough Public Schools will offer K-8 “enrichment” classes over break.*
Students from either town can take up to six brief classes this summer.** Subjects offered fall under the STEAM umbrella: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. The classes will be taught by district educators.
Most of the classes will be held at Trottier Middle School. A few of the classes for 6-8th graders will be held at Algonquin.
Some of you may realize that I made a similar announcement last year. Unfortunately, the district wasn’t ready to advertise its initial launch attempt until the start of spring break with a signup deadline the following week. That didn’t yield enough registrations to make a go of it.
This year, they were able to line everything up in time to announce the news at the start of February. Registration closes Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 4:00 pm. Cancellation notices will be sent out by March 15th for any classes with too low registrations. (Conversely, a class could fill up. So, I’d sign up soon if you’re interested.)
If your family has long weekends plans this summer, this program may be right up your alley. Classes will be held Tues – Thursday for three weeks in July. Up to two 45 minute classes can be taken per week.
Each day, two sessions will be offered; Session 1 will start at 8:15 a.m. and end at 9:45 a.m. and; Session 2 will start at 10:00 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m. Students attending both sessions will have a fifteen minute break each day from 9:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Classes cover a range of subjects including Storybook STEM, Gardening, Introduction to Computational Thinking, Let’s Get Crafty, Mindful Thinking, Salsa Dancing, and Patterns, Symmetry, & Printmaking. Most classes are offered as one week courses. (The exception is “Put on a Show” for 4th-5th graders. Students are expected to signup for all three weeks.)
Courses are offered during the weeks of July 9-11; July 16-18 and July 23-25. The fee is $75 per one week class. Invoices for payment will be sent two weeks after registration closes with payment to be made between then and April 12th.

*The district clarified that grade levels are based on the grade your child’s current class. (That means there are no courses for kids that will be entering Kindergarten in the fall.)
**More specifically, grades 2-5 can take up to 6 courses. For grades K-1 only one course is offered (Storybook STEM) though it is repeated for all three sessions. And only 5 sessions offer classes for Grades 6-8.
Updated (2/5/19 12:58 pm): My original note included confusion on the grade levels. I got the official response from the district this afternoon. (Most summer camps refer to kids by the grades they are entering in the fall. The school enrichment program is based on the grades this spring.)
