Scholarships through GWCF – apply by March 4

GWCF has announced the window for scholarships is open and available to Southborough residents (as members of Worcester County).

Greater Worcester Community Foundation is accepting applications through March 4th.

A single application can be used to apply for many of their scholarships with awards ranging from $300-$5,000.

Though their release lists 136 scholarships, most exclude Southborough residents. (Some are limited to a specific high school or town.) But the listing is extensive and at least 36 covered Worcester County. Those include scholarships for students pursuing education/careers in jazz education, social services, business, and much more:

Greater Worcester Community Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications. High school seniors who live in Worcester County and seek college tuition assistance for the 2019 – 2020 academic year are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is Monday, March 4, 2019. This is the only time this year that the Foundation will be accepting scholarship applications.

Students can apply online by visiting www.greaterworcester.org/scholarships/APPLY-HERE. Submitting a single application allows a student to be considered for any of the Foundation’s 136 scholarships for which they are eligible. Scholarship awards range in size from $300 to $5,000 and are made to students based on a wide variety of criteria including financial need, area of study, community involvement, high school, and hometown.

Since 1978, the Foundation has distributed $11.2 million dollars in scholarships to support the academic goals of Worcester County students. For more information about the Foundation’s Scholarship Program, please contact Liz Nye, Donor Services Officer at lnye@greaterworcester.org. Recipients will be announced June 2019.

For scholarships within the “Worcester County” set, specific eligibility criteria really run the gamut. The A-W (no Zs) listing ranges covers:

  • From “Wallace D. and Dorothy M. Andrews Scholarship” for African-American seniors who have a financial need and are pursuing a degree in bioscience, mathematics, engineering or physics;
  • to “Lt. Colonel Irving A. and Colonel Marie C. Lepore Scholarship” for seniors pursuing a career in aviation or aerospace science, with preference to active Civil Air Patrol cadets;
  • to “Worcester Swedish Charitable Association Scholarship” for seniors of Scandinavian descent.
