Finn School changing March 29th to half day

Above: The building for Southborough’s youngest public school students was too cold to open on January 29th when the heating system failed. To get back on schedule with the other schools, it has to get off schedule one more time.

Southborough’s Pre-K through 1st graders in Southborough public schools will have another schedule change next month.

Back in January, the school was forced to unexpectedly close for a day when the heating system failed. Today, the school announced its plans on how it will meet education requirements without keeping kids in school longer this June than the rest of Southborough and Northborough.

The K-12 district calendar includes Professional Development Days on Monday, March 11th and Friday, March 29th. For Finn School, the latter will now be a half day. Principal Clayton Ryan shared:

Dear Finn Families,

The Finn School was closed on January 29 due to heating related issues. As required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, all schools are required to be in session until June 30, 2019 or upon the completion of 180 school days. In order to fulfill this requirement and not extend the school beyond the school calendar’s last day of school, Finn School will be in session for a half-day on March 29, 2018, which is currently noted as a “Professional Development Day” for staff. We will follow our regular half-day schedule with dismissal and bus pick-up taking place at 12:00 p.m. There will be no afternoon Preschool.

For those of you keeping track, the last day of school is currently scheduled for June 14th, a Friday.
