As I’ve previously posted, an enrichment camp run by our public schools will be held in town this summer. The plan is to offer three sessions of 3-day camps in mid-July. Classes are offered to current K-8 students, split into 4 age groups.
Southborough and Northborough students can take up to six brief classes this summer.* The classes will be taught by district educators. The program is pitched as having a “STEAM” theme: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. (Though, I can’t help but notice that it looks like a lot more classes fall under “Arts” than under STEM.)
Registration was initially set to close this afternoon, but has been extended to 4:00 pm on March 8th.
Most of the classes will be conveniently held at Trottier Middle School. A few for current 6-8th graders will be hosted at Algonquin the first week.
If your family has long weekends plans this summer, this program may be right up your alley. Classes will be held Tues – Thursday. Plus, the website states:
Flexibility for participation in weeks and sessions is available.
Up to two 45 minute classes can be taken per week.
Each day, two sessions will be offered; Session 1 will start at 8:15 a.m. and end at 9:45 a.m. and; Session 2 will start at 10:00 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m. Students attending both sessions will have a fifteen minute break each day from 9:45 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Classes cover a range of subjects including: Algonquin Adventures (rope course); Circle Up for African Drumming; Girl Strong- Leadership Academy; Gardening; Introduction to Computational Thinking; Let’s Get Crafty; Magnetism to the Rescue; Mindful Thinking; Salsa Dancing; SLIMY Creations; Storybook STEM; Patterns, Symmetry, & Printmaking; and Tap Dance.
Note: When looking at class offerings, keep in mind that they refer to students’ current grade levels (not what they will be entering in the fall).
Courses are offered during the weeks of July 9-11; July 16-18 and July 23-25. The fee is $75 per one week class. Invoices for payment will be sent two weeks after registration closes with payment to be made between then and April 12th.
Most classes are offered as one week courses. (The exception is “Put on a Show” for 4th-5th graders. Students are expected to signup for all three weeks, since it culminates in a show at the end.)

**More specifically, grades 2-5 can take up to 6 courses. For grades K-1 only one course is offered (Storybook STEM) though it is repeated for all three sessions. And only 5 sessions offer classes for Grades 6-8.
