If you have a student in Southborough’s public schools, you should be aware by now that the schools have been experiencing more phone issues than usual lately.
This week certainly isn’t the first time I’ve been notified that incoming calls to my child’s school are temporarily down. But I have seen more frequent messages than in the past. Originally, I thought it might be isolated to the Neary/Trottier campus. But it apparently has been impacting all four of the K-8 schools in town.*
Last night, the Superintendent sent out a message to parents acknowledging the situation:
FROM THE OFFICE OF THE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS – Intermittent Telephone Line Connections
To the Southborough School Community
We appreciate your patience and understanding as our District is working closely with Verizon and telecommunication vendors to resolve intermittent telephone issues. At this time, the focus is on the external telephone lines, which are impacting incoming calls to our schools. If you are placing a call to one of our schools, you may receive a busy signal or a notification that the number cannot be reached. These are prerecorded messages initiated by our service provider. If you receive this message, please utilize our email system. All schools are able to place outgoing calls.
This is a high priority for the District as our technology team is working closely with vendors to return full telephone service to all schools.
Thank you.
Christine M. Johnson
Superintendent of Schools
A phone call I placed to Finn School this morning went through fine. But, as the message from the Superintendent indicates, it has been an on again, off again problem.
*I checked in with Algonquin to confirm that they haven’t been having issues. They are on a different phone system that hasn’t been impacted.
